Yes I am!

25 May

One of my new jobs this year is to listen to students recite the stories, songs and chants that my school has developed.

The students are taught these in the classroom and they have the books and CDs at home that they can listen to and practice.

Today I was working with some first graders. I noticed that the three students that were out working on their “memory” were very similar looking.

This is how it happened…

Me: Is he your brother?

Student #1: No.

Student #2: Yes I am!

Me: How come he says that you are but you say that you aren’t?

Student #1: He not my brother.

Student #2: Yes I AM!

Me: Is he your brother (points to the third child)?

Student #1: No.

Student #2: Yes he is!

Student #1: No. He no my brother.

Me: I think that you don’t like your brothers.

Student #1: Smiles

Oh the joy of triplets. I was dying laughing during this whole conversation.

My Mom said…

One thing that I love about my job is that I am still able to see the kids that I taught last year.

I see them in the hallway, going out for playtime and when they are leaving to go home.

I love getting to hug them. I love hearing them scream my name. I love acting like my arms are swords and fighting with my boys from last year.

Yesterday as they were leaving to go home, one of my girls from last year stopped me.

Julie had some questions for me.

Julie: Ms. Mallory do you teach High School?

Me: Yes, I do.

Julie: Wow. My mom was asking me to ask you.

Me: Yes. I have a lot of jobs. I teach Toddlers, I listen to EEE and I teach High School. Maybe if Mrs. Lauren is sick, I will teach your class.

Julie: Oh yay! My mom was looking at your picture on the poster.

Me: Oh yes, it is the same as last year.

Julie: My mom said that you were fat last year but you are not fat anymore.

Me: Oh thank you!

What a complement and an insult at the same time. O.0

Something to tuck into my memory: If you have an 8-year-old, be careful what you say about their teacher because they will most likely tell them.

Camp.

Summer Camp.

It was so much fun. I loved every moment of it: from getting to scare my kids in the haunted house to eating with them to helping them make tie-dye t-shirts to waking them up in the morning to getting drooled on to getting sneezed on to laughing with my kids. Everything. SO much fun.

Today we went to the beach and the Missourian in me FREAKED out. Loveeee the ocean. But now I don’t know if I am lovin this sunburn that I have. wah wah wahhhhh

Some quotes from camp:

“Ms. Mallory, I skunked 2 times last night. I was sleeping and then I woke up and AH!” -Thomas

“Yah, Thomas skunked right in my face!”-Timothy

“Ms. Mallory, why your legs always so hairy?”- Anna

“Ms. Mallory, I saw your eye thing.”- Sylvia

“Oh yeah?”-Me

“Yes, you were sleeping with mouth open.”- Sylvia

“Ms. Mallory, I love you. You are my MeySen Momma.”- Lance, Julie and Sylvia all at random times

EHHHHH?!

27 May

The other day my students and I had a Cinco de Mayo party.

Such a fun day.

I am now going to add to my resume that I taught 50 Japanese kids the Macarena and the Chicken Dance. So funny. They were all so cute. I loveeeee them.

On the way back from the party my kids were asking me how old I was. I told them to guess. One kid was like 45! I gave him the evil look. “Just kidding Ms. Mallory!”

Anthony, one of my most talkative kids, then proceeded to ask again. I told them that I was 23 and in unison… “EHHHHHH?!?! You are so young!”

Then this is the conversation that I had with Anthony.

“Ms. Mallory, in Japan you can’t ask the age of women.”

“It is the same in America too but if you are a kid then it doesn’t matter.”

“I want to go to America! I will ask everyone their age!”

Then he hold his arm like a clipboard and his finger like a pencil.

“Then I will ask, How old are you? How old are you?”

Dying laughing.

I love my kids.
