Potato Roast

6 Nov

Here in Japan, they have a fall festival at school. They roast sweet potatoes.

Here are some pictures to show you what we did.

Momiji Class lined up to watch the roasting.

Nara class lined up to watch the roasting.

Fuji class lined up to watch the roasting.

Getting the fire started. I thought that my glasses were going to melt off of my face.

The older kids throwing their potatoes into the fire.

Potatoes getting ready to roast. We covered these up with about 12 more layers of straw. It was insane.

Then after the potatoes were done, we had to dig them out of the fire. Here is my lovely friend and coworker, Carrie, holding up some of the potatoes.

Getting ready to eat my potato. Please observe how black my hands are as well. I even had gloves on.

Then after it was all finished, we had to water the fire. My friend Joshua, is doing just that.

This was a fun event and very Japanese. Just something to show what we do here in Japan for Fall.

I still miss carving pumpkins and all things pumpkin flavored as well.

Monday Again

18 Oct

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

1. Rearranging

If you know me at all or even the tiniest bit, you will know that I LOVE to rearrange things. Purses, clothes, dishes, furniture, my life (ha) and so on. Well this weekend I decided that it was time to rearrange my apartment for probably the 15th time since I have moved to Japan 9 months ago. I am kind of scared what my future husband will think of this one day. :/

2. Fall

Fall has finally arrived here in Japan. Thank goodness. I was tired of sweating all of the time. I love having my windows open and having a nice crisp breeze blow into my apartment. I also love that I haven’t turned my air conditioner on in almost a month! Woot!

3. Gum

Right now I am chewing a piece of gum. I cannot tell you the last time that I chewed a piece of gum. I cannot chew it at work and Japanese people aren’t big gum chewers either.

4. Super Size

Last night I watched ‘Super Size Me’ for the first time. At first all I could think of is how delicious some of that food would be to eat. I miss American food. I don’t hate Japanese food I just miss some good American greasyness once in a while. But by the end of the movie… I was disgusted, but still wanted it. haha

5. Apple Cider

One thing that I am currently missing about the Fall season is apple cider. I am going to attempt to hopefully make some this week or next but I’m sure that it won’t turn out as well as I would hope for it to be.

That’s all for now!

Favorite Season..

14 Sep

You were good to me. We had a lot of fun. A nice SUN BURN that was oh so painful. Weddings. Job. But, dear summer, I am so glad that you are coming to an end. We had a good time together but, your turn is over.

Dear Fall,

I cannot wait for you to be here. You are my favorite season. You are not too cold or too hot. You are just right. (That just reminded me of Goldie locks and the 3 bears.) You are beautiful. The colors of the trees and the leaves that fall on the ground and I will play in them no matter how old I am. I love to take pictures during this season. I love the feeling of being able to wear a scarf and flip flops at the same time. I love hay rides, bonfires, corn mazes, Starbucks, and that all of the annoying bugs die. 🙂

Oh and my favorite holiday of ALL time is during this season. Halloween. Yes, I know… it is “Satan’s” holiday, butttttttt what other day of the year can you dress up to be whatever you want to be? This is why this makes this holiday WONDERFUL ohhh and all of the free candy. 🙂

But the season following, Mr Winter, I DO NOT like. I am not a fan of being cold or having to scrape the frost off of my car. Or getting my pants wet because I am so short. And many other things I do not like about Winter.

Spring, I like you because then it means my birthday. And well, I have already discussed how I feel about birthday’s. 🙂

What is your favorite season?
